A flood control structure recently completed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) now ensures the safety of flood-prone communities along Panay River in the municipality of Panitan, Capiz.
According to DPWH Region 6 Director Nerie D. Bueno, the river control structure will provide inland protection and help mitigate major flooding not only in Panitan, but also in the neighboring municipality of Pontevedra.
The 388.4 lineal meter project consists of revetment with headwall, constructed along the shores of Panay River that crosses through Barangay Cadio.
With the completion of the project, inundation and erosion of nearby agricultural lands are also prevented which results to crops yielding more products and opening more economic possibilities in the area.
DPWH Capiz 1st District Engineering Office received an allocation of P74 million to implement the Cadio River Control Project.
