A new slope protection structure along the banks of Pasig-Potrero River now ensures the safety of residents in Barangay Manuali, Porac, Pampanga.
Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan said that the construction of 232.54-lineal-meter structure was implemented by DPWH Pampanga Second District Engineering Office (DEO) in the amount of P29.3 million.
Citing reports from DPWH Regional Office 3 Director Roseller A. Tolentino and District Engineer Gregorio D. Audea, Jr., Secretary Bonoan explained that the concrete slope protection was built on steel sheet pile foundation with reinforced concrete pile cap to prevent slips, collapse, and landslide.
The structure will guarantee flood prevention and prevents soil erosion in the area near the Pasig-Potrero River which has become heavily silted as a result of Pinatubo lahar deposits, said Secretary Bonoan.
The slope protection works is expected to divert river water during torrential rains, safeguarding the lives and properties of residents while also preventing further scouring of river banks.
The project was funded under the General Appropriation Act (GAA) of 2022.
