The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed two (2) road improvement projects that will benefit local communities in San Lorenzo and Sibunag, Guimaras.
A 1.5-kilometer portion of Guimaras Circumferential Road in the town of San Lorenzo was recently widened from two (2) to four (4) lanes, catering more number of vehicles traversing Barangay Cabano and Igcawayan.
According to DPWH Regional Office 6 Director Nerie D. Bueno, the additional road space now provides a more convenient road access to various tourist attractions such as Reyley Farm, Sunset Valley, Clara Beach Resort, and San Lorenzo Wind Farm, opening more development opportunities in the municipality.
Costing P72.9 million, the road widening project also involves provision of drainage canal and slope protection with installation of thermoplastic pavement markings and warning signs as safety features.
On the other hand, DPWH Guimaras District Engineering Office has upgraded from gravel to portland concrete cement pavement (PCCP) the farm-to-market road (FMR) in Barangay Alegria, Sibunag.
“The newly-paved road now provides residents, especially farmers and fisherfolks a quicker, safer, and more cost-efficient transport of their products to markets and other establishments,” said Director Bueno.
Undertaken in convergence with the Department of Agriculture (DA), the P11.9-million project involved concreting of the 575-lineal meter, 2-lane FMR with provision of concrete slope protection, metal guard rails, and thermoplastic pavement markings
