The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has facilitated better connectivity between communities in Magalang, Pampanga by constructing a new bridge.

DPWH Regional Office 3 Director Roseller A. Tolentino, in his report to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, said that the newly-completed P54.02-million Sto. Niño Bridge in Magalang town is a 145-meter-long bridge with a bridge span of 64 meters.

Implemented by the DPWH Pampanga Third District Engineering Office (DEO), the newly-built bridge now provides safe connection between Barangays San Ildefonso and Sto. Niño, and leading to other neighboring areas in Magalang and the rest of Pampanga.

Director Tolentino explained that the constructed bridge is a replacement to the decades-old, single-lane steel bridge in Barangay Sto. Niño that could only accommodate light vehicles.

The new Sto. Nino Bridge now has two (2) lanes with a total width of 7.32 meters, one-meter sidewalk on each side, and approach roads measuring 31 meters at Abutment A and 50 meters at Abutment B.

With a wider and more stable bridge, motorists can now look forward to improved traffic flow in the area.

Director Tolentino also highlighted the usage of a more durable and cost-saving concrete material in the implementation of the Sto. Niño Bridge replacement project, which requires less maintenance in the long-run compared to the steel material used in the previous old bridge.

The completion of the Sto. Niño Bridge is among the five (5) old bridges replaced by the DPWH in Magalang town to better serve motorists and commuters, especially in transporting goods and services.

Other bridges replaced by DPWH in Magalang included the bridges in Barangays San Agustin, San Francisco, San Ildefonso, and San Jose.
