A concrete access road completed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) now provides a faster, safer, and hassle-free travel between far-flung barangays in the town of Zarraga, Iloilo.
DPWH Region 6 Director Sanny Boy O. Oropel said that the road project is divided into two (2) sections, which involves construction of two (2)-lane portland concrete cement pavement along a 1.6-kilometer portion for Section 1, and 1.7 kilometers for Section 2.
Funded through the Sustainable Infrastructure Projects Alleviating Gaps (SIPAG) Program, the P29.3 million road project now connects Barangay Talibong to Inagdangan Centro.
With the improved access road, locals can now conveniently travel to schools, health centers, and other public and private establishments in the town without passing through a muddy or dusty route.
The concrete road also enables unhampered transportation of agricultural products, as well as other goods and services at a lesser cost, benefitting farmers and local businesses in the area.
“Residents of these barangays no longer have to rely on traditional modes of transportation such as animal-drawn carts which are slower and less efficient, thus, reducing the risk of spoilage and increasing their profits,” said Director Oropel.
The road concreting project was implemented by DPWH Iloilo 4th District Engineering Office.
