
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) celebrated significant advancements in construction technology during its 10th Research Symposium, held Friday, October 18, 2024, at the University of the Philippines Bahay ng Alumni, Diliman, Quezon City.
This year's DPWH Research Symposium, themed “Construction Breakthroughs,” showcased the latest innovations and technological advancements in construction.
The annual event organized by the DPWH Bureau of Research and Standards (BRS) aims to foster collaboration and the exchange of cutting-edge ideas for continuously improving public infrastructure in the Philippines.
Highlight of the event are the ten (10) latest research focusing on addressing critical challenges in construction technology, including innovations in concrete technology, ground improvement, slope stabilization, and road pavement performance.
Participating organizations and institutions that presented their research included the DPWH Bureau of Research and Standards, Shell Pilipinas Corporation, Polytechnic University of the Philippines, Mapua University, CIFRA Marketing Corporation, Cyanclay Incorporated, Maccaferri Philippines Inc., Rebtrade International Corporation, and PGA-Earth Structure Solutions Inc.
DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan was represented at the event by DPWH Bureau of Research and Standards (BRS) OIC Director Juliana D. Vergara and Bureau of Quality and Safety Director Reynaldo P. Faustino. The event saw the participation of over 300 engineers, researchers, and professionals from academic institutions, government agencies, and the private sector.
Other notable attendees included DPWH BRS OIC Assistant Director Gerardo A. Macalinao, BRS Research and Development Division Chief Teodoro D. Viyar, Jr., and esteemed former DPWH officials—retired Undersecretaries Raul C. Asis and Maximo L. Carvajal, as well as former BRS Director Judy M. Sese—who continue to offer mentorship and leadership guidance.
