According to Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar, the Tacloban By-Pass Road along Daang Maharlika Highway will be completed April 2017.

“The Tacloban City By-Pass Road, which will start at Brgy. Tigbao in Tacloban City and end at Brgy. Caibaan, was constructed to decongest traffic along Daang Maharlika Highway, which has a total annual average daily traffic of 11,393,” Villar said.

“The project will ease traffic congestion of the city proper and will provide an alternate route traversing Barangays Abucay, Apitong and Caibaan,” he said.

The P542.48 million project involves the construction and concreting of a 6.4 km four lane road, paving of shoulders and slope protection works.

“When completed, the by-pass road is expected to reduce travel time from 1 ½ hours to 30 minutes,” he said.

The by-pass is expected not only to ease traffic congestion in Tacloban but will also increase accessibility of road network and strengthen trade in the area.

“The project is expected to benefit at least a thousand motorists per day,” Villar said.
