The advocacies of Iloilo Governor Arthur D. Defensor Sr. are better traffic management and regulations, maintenance and improvement of national and provincial roads, apprehension of traffic violators and coordination with other agencies by creating a road safety task force.
The roles of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) on these advocacies are to conduct yearly inspections and put up road signs, provide bike lanes and loading and unloading bays and prompt completion of road projects.
DPWH Region 6 representatives led by OIC Assistant Regional Director Jose Al V. Fruto met with barangay officials, landowners, and residents at the said barangay, recently. The said meeting was for the public consultation on the right of way issues for the improvement and rehabilitation of the Iloilo – Capiz Road (Old Route) being implemented in the area.
A particular road stretch is perennially being damaged due to road slip causing inconvenience for motorists and pedestrians for many years. In line with this, DPWH plans to provide a better network in Brgy. Gines Patag, Cabatuan as a busy national highway at the 3rd Congressional District of Iloilo.
The shifting of route to a nearby location will be affecting parcels of land. Several land owners and their representatives sat for a dialogue at the residence of Brgy. Capt Roel Tamorite with DPWH’s ARD Fruto, Project Engineer Mary Jean Maghari, Atty. John Fred Hallares and Nilo Bautista together with the contractor’s representatives concerning the right of way of the road construction affecting their properties.
“The project will start as early as possible. I am also reminding the residents to gather their documents such as titles and tax declarations. Rest assured that DPWH has sufficient fund for payment of the affected lots.” assured Fruto.
The DPWH is seeking the cooperation from the residents and barangay officials for faster implementation of the project traversing the shifted alignment.
