The Dario Bridge along Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) in Quezon City is now fully open to the motoring public after a 7-month partial closure for its rehabilitation and reconstruction.
Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) National Capital Region Director Melvin B. Navarro said that all lanes of the bridge in both northbound and southbound directions are now passable.
“Our scheduled completion for Dario Bridge is on February 13, 2016 but we are able to facilitate opening of all lanes inasmuch as remaining finishing activities will not affect vehicular traffic, said Navarro.
DPWH-Quezon City First District Engineering Office is implementing remaining works on Dario Bridge which involves expansion joints, asphalt overlay and lane marking.
The bridge’s closure took effect last June 19, 2015, to make way for the replacement of the existing three (3) barrel reinforced concrete box culvert built in 1964 into a standard bridge.
Its rehabilitation came after investigations showed there are visible signs of deterioration like water leakage, rebar exposure, and cracking at different areas of the 5 decade old box culvert.
DPWH allocated P44.6 million for the project which was awarded to LMG Construction / E.L. Anolin Construction (J.V.) with contract cost of P38.7 million.
This translates to a total about P5.8 million worth of government savings through competitive public bidding.
