Monday, January 25, 2016

A Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) employee has returned a lost wallet of a retired military official he found inside the DPWH Head Office in Port Area, Manila.

Mr. Rodolfo C. Poyaoan Jr., an Administrative Assistant IV under job order status of DPWH Unified Project Management Office – Buildings and Special Projects Management Cluster (UPMO-BSPMC) found a wallet beside Land Bank ATM machine at the DPWH Head Office around 3:00 p.m. last Tuesday, January 19, 2016, and returned it the same day to the rightful owner.

Poyaoan said upon realizing that it is a lost wallet, he immediately looked for identification cards he can use to return it to the owner.

He was able to locate the rightful owner – Ret. Brigidier General Iluminado B. Aragon of the Armed Forces of the Philippines - through the IDs and established other information from the DPWH security guards.

Aragon said he must have dropped his wallet while on his way to the DPWH Legal Service for a road right-of-way concern.

Elated, Aragon expressed his gratitude to the DPWH employee, which he said did not only return the P10,000 cash but also his important IDs and documents.

Poyaoan who receives daily compensation of P843 said that it never crossed his mind to keep the money because it would be against the values of integrity he wants to live by.

“The DPWH management commends our newest good Samaritan, Mr. Poyaoan. I hope that this kind of deed will further inspire us to do what is right all the time,” said DPWH Secretary Rogelio L. Singson.
