The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has prioritized the improvement of the Philippine-Japan Friendship Highway popularly known as Daang Maharlika, as the Philippines major arterial road connecting Luzon with the Visayas and Mindanao Islands in the south. In photo (at right) is Sorsogon First District Engineer Ignacio Odiaman with construction chief Engr. Wilfedo Flores during an inspection at the on-going widening of the 60 lineal meters Mauhang Bridge in Casiguran, Sorsogon. Costing P55 Million, the project involves widening of the pre-stressed concrete girder type bridge on bored piles foundation including its approach slab and approaches.
