To keep the Bayanihan Spirit alive, employees of DPWH Regional Office participated in this year’s Brigada Eskwela, joining the Las Mujeres, TFZ, 4 P’s, Kabalikat, alumni, barangay official workers and other volunteers in helping clean-up of the Catalina Vda de Jalon Memorial School in Tumaga, Zamboanga City.
National Schools Maintenance Week or popularly known as Brigada Eskwela, was implemented by virtue of Republic Act 8525 which establishes the Adopt-A-School Program and allows private entities and other sectors to assist in the construction and upgrading of materials and other facilities of public schools.
Since its launch in 2003, the event has been successful in promoting the spirit of volunteerism and teamwork among the Filipinos, bringing awareness as to the importance of education to the community level and reducing operating and maintaining expenses of public schools.
The annual participation of the DPWH in this activity shows that its collaboration with the Department of Education is not only limited to the construction of educational facilities but also supports its plans and programs in strengthening the quality of education in the Philippines.
