The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the construction of a multi-purpose building in Sta. Mesa, Manila that will encourage local residents and university students to be active in sports and fitness activities.
The building project in the amount of P9.59 million involves the construction of 18.0 meters by 35.0 meters covered court inside the compound of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines-College of Engineering and Architecture (PUP-CEA) in Barangay 628 Zone 63, Sta. Mesa, Manila.
In a report, DPWH-North Manila District Engineer Medel Chua said that the completed covered court now serves as a decent venue for games and public gatherings of the local residents. PUP students can also use it as an additional venue for their athletic events, Chua said.
Hence, sports enthusiasts from Barangay 628 and PUP Campus would no longer be playing under the heat of the sun as the open space behind PUP-CEA has been converted into a multi-purpose building with reliable roof, non-skid cement flooring and neat paint finish.
Other building projects of DPWH-North Manila District Engineering Office which were earlier completed include the construction of a health center in Herbosa Street, Tondo costing P9.5-million and the rehabilitation of Ospital ng Sampaloc in the amount of P8.2-million.
