Staying true to its commitment to deliver services of international standards – a total of 54 offices of the Department of Public Works and Highways are now certified against the requirements of International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001:2008 standards after 35 new offices were awarded certification for the Department’s Quality Management System.
ISO 9001:2008 Certification is an accreditation conducted by external certification bodies to ensure that an organization performs their inter-related processes with international standards.
“As I leave the office in a few days, I am sure that the ISO certification program is considered a success because the Central Office, Regional Offices, the Unified Project Management Offices, and 17 District Engineering Offices are now certified. Unfortunately for some remaining 165 District Engineering Offices, they will still have to work for their certifications. But with a massive 54 accredited Offices, I think we will be able to create the momentum for the whole Department to pursue every single District to be certified as well,” said Secretary Rogelio L. Singson during one of his last engagements as the agency’s head – the Awarding Ceremony held at the DPWH Head Office in Manila.
Included in the DPWH QMS ISO 9001:2008 Registration Expansion are the five (5) Unified Project Management Offices (UPMO), the remaining fifteen (15) Regional Offices, and fifteen (15) District Engineering Offices (DEO) for a total of 35 offices.
In 2015, nineteen (19) DPWH offices were awarded certification including the nine (9) Services and six (6) Bureaus that comprise the Central Office; and two (2) pilot Regional Offices (National Capital Region and Region XI), and two (2) pilot District Engineering Offices.
The ISO 9001: 2008 Quality Management System was audited by a third party auditor, the Anglo Japanese American (AJA) Registrars.
