DPWH Reactivates "Lakbay-Alalay" on Holy Week

Department of Public Works and Highways motorist assistance teams will be on duty along major thoroughfares to help travelers this coming Lenten break.

DPWH Secretary Rogelio L. Singson has instructed all Regional Directors and District Engineers nationwide to reactivate its motorist assistance program dubbed as “Lakbay Alalay” from March 21-28, 2016.

Lakbay Alalay teams composed of DPWH personnel and mechanics ready with equipment and service vehicles will be placed in strategic locations along national roads where there are influx of motorists.

They shall be serve on a round-the-clock shift and shall coordinate with Land Transportation Office (LTO), Philippine National Police (PNP), local government units (LGUs) and other concerned agencies for any necessary assistance that may be provided.

This early, Secretary Singson has directed field personnel to conduct inspection and ensure all major routes are free from potholes, pavement markings are reflectorized, and proper signages and warning signs are installed within clear and safe distance of all on-going construction projects.

Regional directors and district engineers were also ordered to ensure that legible informational and directional signs are installed on visible locations along national roads. DPWH will likewise facilitate the removal of any obstruction along the right-of-way of national roads and bridges such as vendors and illegally parked vehicles to ensure safety of the motoring public.
