Ilocos Region Advances with 1,273 DPWH Infra Projects Completed in 2021

Despite the many challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic, Ilocos Region continues to flourish with 1,273 infrastructure projects developed and facilitated by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in the year 2021.

Based on the report submitted by DPWH Region 1 Director Ronnel M. Tan, DPWH Secretary Roger G. Mercado stated that with the 1,552 projects funded in 2021, 1,273 projects have already been completed.

DPWH Expands Flood Mitigation Structure in Zamboanga Sibugay

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has extended the existing revetment wall along the downstream of Sibuguey River in Barangay Balugo, Imelda, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Citing from a report submitted by DPWH Zamboanga Sibugay 1st District Engineering Office, Secretary Roger G. Mercado said that the project costing P23.7-Million to lengthen the existing revetment wall to 193 lineal meters aims to protect farm lands from destruction caused by flash floods.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has successfully facilitated better access to Barangay Culipapa in Hinobaan, Negros Occidental through a newly--constructed road that leads to its various farmlands in Sitio Cemeco.

Secretary Roger G. Mercado said that the farm-to-market road is a P48.25-million project implemented by the DPWH Negros Occidental 3rd District Engineering Office (DEO) with budget sourced from the General Appropriations Act (GAA) for 2020.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will undertake road repair on parts of the Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) this weekend.

Based on a report from DPWH National Capital Region (NCR) Director Nomer Abel P. Canlas, Secretary Roger G. Mercado announced that road works will begin 11 PM Friday, February 4, 2021.

The affected areas are the northbound direction of EDSA Quezon City from Aurora Boulevard to New York Street, 3rd lane from sidewalk; and at southbound direction EDSA Caloocan City before Benin Street, 4th lane from sidewalk.

Two (2) eco-tourism projects were recently completed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to make Katunggan Boardwalk and Mangrove Sanctuary in Barangay Caranoche, Sta. Catalina, Negros Oriental more accessible to tourists.

DPWH Secretary Roger G. Mercado, citing a report from DPWH Regional Office 7 Director Edgar B. Tabacon, said that the mangrove forest now has a 6-storey high viewing deck tower, boardwalk, hanging bridge, receiving platform including electrical facilities.

DPWH Delivers Southern Iloilo's First Permanent Evacuation Center

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has recently constructed a multi-purpose building that doubles as an evacuation center for the residents of Miagao, Iloilo in times of calamities and emergency situations.

According to Secretary Roger G. Mercado, the completion of the P39.5-million structure, which stands a few kilometers away from Miagao’s town proper in Barangay Kirayan Tacas, was made possible through the efforts of DPWH Regional Office 6.
