DPWH ensures stability of Soccksargen bridges

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is set to conduct sub-surface explorations to guarantee durability of permanent bridges in Soccksargen Region.

DPWH Region 12 OIC-Director Basir M. Ibrahim said that the amount of P27 million was allocated to check 44 priority bridges and ensure its durability and longevity especially those that are undergoing widening.

It will cover 12 bridges in Polomok, Tupi and General Santos City, 11 in the municipalities of Arakan, Kidapawan City, M’lang, Tulunan and Antipas, and nine (9) in the areas of Sultan Kudarat.  Five (5) bridges will also be inspected in South Cotabato and seven (7) in the municipalities of Maitum, Glan, Malapatan and Alabel of Sarangani Province.

“This is a timely activity considering the frequent occurrence of earthquakes, flash floods, and other calamities damaging our infrastructure”, Director Ibrahim said.

Director Ibrahim emphasized the need to take preventive action such as soil exploration to avoid loss of lives, waste of public funds, and bigger damage to infrastructure.

Technical personnel of DPWH were also deployed regionwide to monitor the rise of flood water and the condition national bridges during heavy rains.
