Retrofitting works have been completed to strengthen the decades-old Sampao Bridge in Barangay Sampao, Isulan, Sultan Kudarat.

In his report, District Engineer Alan D. Arumpac of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Sultan Kudarat First District Engineering Office said that the retrofitting of the bridge by modification of existing structures to make them more resistant to seismic activity or ground motion is in line with Department’s program to provide safer access of motorists along the busy Kidapawan-Ala Junction Road.

The repair and strengthening of Sampao Bridge was implemented in the amount of P8.3 million under 2018 General Appropriations Act (GAA).

“Sampao Bridge - built in 1956 - needed to be repaired due to its age. Results of our inspection also revealed its deterioration hence the project was realized,” said Engr. Arumpac.

According to Engr. Arumpac, the 49-lineal meter bridge now conforms to the latest DPWH bridge design standards with enhanced load bearing capacity.

Commuters continue to grow in numbers in the area, hence the newly-retrofitted Sampao Bridge is critical to ensure people’s safety.
