The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed two (2) road improvement and preservation projects to allow better mobility for both locals and tourists in Negros Oriental.
The newly-completed projects include the concreting of the Looc Bypass Road in Dumaguete City, costing P29.98 million, and asphalt overlay of 2.74 km Dumaguete Junction – Bais to Kabankalan Section of Dumaguete North Road in Bais City, costing P43.70 million.
DPWH Negros Oriental Second District Engineering Office (DEO) under the leadership of District Engineer Joven M. Calabia implemented the projects which also involved provision of thermoplastic pavement markings and internally illuminated solar pavement levelled markers to provide accurate road-markings and reduce vehicular accidents.
DPWH Negros Oriental Second Assistant District Engineer Luz A. Vicoy said that the newly-improved road projects will benefit a large volume of motorists particularly locals, traders, and tourists, and eventually boost the economy of the province.
Another P42 million road widening project is also on-going along Dumaguete North Road at KM26 + 700 to KM27 + 555 of Dumaguete Junction – Bais to Kabankalan Section of Dumaguete North Road, and the construction of the 358-meter flood mitigation structure and drainage system that will serve as river control structure in Amlan, Negros Oriental.
