Residents of Barangay Kitacubong, Alamada, North Cotabato now have a defense wall against landslides and road closures with the completion of a slope protection project of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) along Banisilan-Guiling-Alamada-Libungan Road.
DPWH North Cotabato 2nd District Engineer Eliseo L. Otoc said the project costing P6.5 million covers the rehabilitation and reconstruction of a 934-square meter portion of existing retaining structure in the area with slips, slope collapse, and landslide.
“Keeping safety at the forefront, this wall will protect road users and prevent road damage and obstruction from landslides and rockslides during calamities,” said DE Otoc.
Funded under the 2018 General Appropriations Act (GAA), the implementation of the slope protection project was completed in just four (4) months from March to July 2018.
At present, a beautification project through mural painting on the retaining wall was instigated by the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Alamada for information drive and promotion of tourism in the area.
The municipality of Alamada is slowly becoming a favorite tourist destination in North Cotabato as it is the home of the mesmerizing Asik-Asik Falls.
