Two (2) LED-lighted bridge projects of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in North Cotabato now provide benefit not only to motorists but also attract local tourists in the area.
In his report to DPWH Secretary Mark Villar, District Engineer Eliseo L. Otoc of DPWH North Cotabato Second District Engineering Office said that Ugalingan Bridge in Carmen town, and Lumayong Bridge in the municipality of Kabakan were retrofitted on purpose of conforming to the Department’s seismic design specifications.
“Aside from ensuring the structural integrity of these bridges, we also incorporated lighting components to ensure safety of motorists and pedestrians crossing our bridges,” said District Engineer Otoc.
“These LED lights have added the aesthetic appeal of Ugalingan and Lumayong Bridges, enhancing structures’ beauty and character even at night. This improvement eventually impressed locals hence the increased number of visitors,” added District Engineer Otoc.
The LED-lighted bridges conform to Secretary Villar’s Department Order No. 49, series of 2018, which directed the inclusion of aesthetics in all bridge plans and designs.
The LED-lighting, retrofitting, and strengthening works of Ugalingan and Lumayong Bridges was completed by DPWH North Cotabato Second District Engineering Office.
