The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has officially commenced construction of the Metro Dumaguete Diversion Road Section 1 in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental.

According to DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar, the bypass road aims to decongest traffic along the national road going to Dumaguete City upon its completion in the first quarter of 2020.

The Metro Dumaguete Diversion Road Section 1 project involves the construction of a 1.63-kilometer four (4) lane concrete road from Western Nautical Highway at Barangay Batinguel going to Barangay Camanjac in Dumaguete City which will serve as an alternate route for motorists travelling toward Bacong to Sibulan in Negros Oriental.

Secretary Villar noted that the P95.9-million project funded under DPWH’s 2019 Infrastructure Program is one of the priority projects of DPWH Regional Office 7.

“We are hopeful that the diversion road will give way to improved mobility and open more economic opportunities not only for Dumaguete City but for the rest of Negros Oriental,” said Secretary Villar.

Officials of DPWH Regional Office 7 together with Negros Oriental Second District Representative Manuel Sagarbarria and local government officials of Dumaguete City recently led the ground-breaking ceremony for the road project.
