Recreational facilities for Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Region 12 employees and persons deprived of liberty (PDL) will soon rise at the BJMP Office in Barangay Apopong, General Santos City, after the Department of Public Works and Highways broke ground last September 14, 2019.
The ceremonial groundbreaking, led by DPWH Region 12 South Cotabato 2nd District Engineer Rey R. Francisco and BJMP Region 12 Director Isabelo V. Cartin Jr, marked the commencement of construction of a four-storey multi-purpose building and 960 square meter covered court.
Aimed to be used for employees and PDLs’ seminars, workshops, and other recreational activities, DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar sees the construction of these facilities as an opportunity for employees and PDLs to develop their skills.
“These comfortable and conducive spaces shall foster a culture of learning and provide avenues for the employees and PDLs to realize their potentials,” Secretary Villar added.
Construction works for the facilities will officially begin at the last quarter of 2019 and is expected to finish at the third quarter of 2020.
Funded under the 2019 General Appropriations Act (GAA), the multi-purpose building and covered court has a budget of P5 million and P6 million, respectively.
