The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed major road projects in Biliran to provide residents and motorists more convenient access to the island province.

DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar lauded DPWH Biliran District Engineer David P. Adongay Jr., for the timely completion of the asphalt overlay projects in Eastern Visayas as part of the preventive maintenance program of the major road.

“Over the years, the concrete pavements have deteriorated due to the heavy load of equipment and vehicles traversing the roads that’s why we fast-tracked the completion of the projects that started only last July,” reported Engineer Adongay.

The 5.276-km damaged concrete pavement along Naval-Caibiran Cross Country in Naval, the largest municipality in the province, has been improved for a total cost of P70-million.

Rehabilitation and asphalt overlay were also implemented along the 4.4-km segment of Biliran Circumferential Road in the neighboring municipality of Biliran, amounting to 60-million.

“We are hopeful that these road improvements will not only improve access to Biliran Provincial Hospital and Naval Port but also boost economic activity in the agriculturally-rich province,” said Secretary Villar.
