DPWH delivers early completion of Sultan Kudarat flood mitigating projects

Three (3) flood control projects along Ala River were completed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Sultan Kudarat 2nd District Engineering Office (DEO) months ahead of target schedules.

The projects with total cost of P161.73 million, funded under the CY 2019 Regular Infrastructure Program, now safeguard both the lives and agricultural livelihood of residents in Barangays Ala and Daladap in Esperanza and Barangay Biwang in Bagumbayan.

In Barangay Ala, DWPH built a 500-meter river wall in the amount of P46.42 million; 500-meter in Barangay Daladap amounting P46.37-million; and 240-meter revetment in Barangay Biwang at the cost of P22.50 million.

DPWH Sultan Kudarat 2nd DEO District Engineer Mamintal T. Taha explained that the completed flood mitigating projects will stabilize, reinforce and preserve the natural structure of the river and protect residents of low-lying areas during heavy rains,”.

Meanwhile, another P46.44-million flood control project along upstream Ala River also in Barangay Daladap spanning 500 lineal meters is nearing completion.

The DPWH Sultan Kudarat 2nd DEO has programmed the implementation of more flood control projects this year to protect lives and properties from the threat of flooding.
