The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is set to complete the flood control structures of Himoga-an River along Bacolod North Road, Sagay City, Negros Occidental in time for the rainy season.

Aimed for completion this June 2020, the P58.84-million flood control project involves the construction of grouted riprap on steel sheet piles with reinforced concrete along 450 meters of Himoga-an River and clearing and grubbing, excavation and embankment works.

Residents living near the river, along with their properties and source of living, will be protected by the 6-meter high slope protection project that is seen to improve the river channel and prevent overflow and flooding.

The project, which started construction in June 2019, is implemented by DPWH Negros Occidental 1st District Engineering Office (DEO) and is already 78.48 percent completed as of December 2019.

“All over the country, DPWH is continuously working to safeguard Filipinos from the damages brought upon by flooding which is more occurrent starting the middle part of the year when the typhoon season begins,” Secretary Mark A. Villar said.
