The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Aurora District Engineering Office (DEO) envisions an improved eco-tourism in the scenic province of Aurora after the completion of the P50-million access road leading to Barangay Sabang, home to some of the most beautiful beach resorts in the province.

Aside from the construction of the 1,489 linear meter (l.m) access road, the project also includes the 420 l.m. river revetment.

District Engineer Reynaldo Alconcel reported that from the starting date of March 25, 2014, the project is already in 51% completion rate as of July 23, 2014, and is set to finish by November of this year.

“This project will result to a more convenient road access for travelers and motorists. This aims to improve the socio-economic activity and strengthen eco-tourism industry in the municipality of Baler and the entire province since the scenic places and relaxing beaches become more accessible to the public,” said DE Alconcel.

DE Alconcel said that the anticipated boost in local tourism through the improved road access will eventually lead to more job opportunities for Baler residents and will generate more income for the province.

The said construction project is just one of the many infrastructure projects undertaken by the DPWH in compliance to the convergence program with the Department of Tourism.

Other projects under the five (5) convergence program includes construction of farm-to-market roads in coordination with the Department of Agriculture; construction and rehabilitation of roads leading to seaports and airports with the Department of Transportation and Communication; and the infrastructures built under the Public and Private Partnership Program.
