A total of 13 infrastructure projects costing P243.026 Million are being undertaken by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija.

Foremost among the various on-going and recently completed projects being carried out by DPWH Nueva Ecija 2nd District Engineering Office (DEO) include the improvement of the city’s road networks that connect the city to other business centers in the region.

District Engineer Ulysses Llado reported that an Average Annual Daily Traffic (AADT) of 18,326 motorists will benefit from the P36.25-million improvement and rehabilitation of the 2,645.86 linear meter section of the Nueva Ecija- Aurora Road that connects the city to the Port of Dingalan and Sabang Beach in Aurora province, the provincial capital and the onion-producing municipalities in Eastern Nueva Ecija.

Also, the construction of the P11.2-million Cabanatuan City-Papaya Road implemented by Nueva Ecija 2nd DEO is on full blast after its stoppage early this June.

“This city is Nueva Ecija’s center of commerce and trade and we are committed in providing quality infrastructure projects that will further spur the city’s growing economy,” said DE Llado.

Since the projects are located in the key areas of the province, DE Llado said that they have already anticipated traffic congestions even before the start of the project.

However, the District Engineer is optimistic that motorists and residents will realize that the temporary inconvenience will result to a greatly enhanced trading and commerce within the city and the rest of Eastern Nueva Ecija.

Aside from this, the rehabilitation and upgrading of the national secondary road that cuts across the villages of Sumacab, San Jose and Bonifacio earned positive appraisal from the residents and local motorists.

Mr Rodel Ronquillio, a resident of Brgy. Sumacab said, “I am very grateful that the road we use to transport our commodities is greatly improved. As vegetable farmers, this project will make our transport easier and faster to sell our goods to Cabanatuan and nearby municipalities of Sta. Rosa and San Leonardo.”

This P13.629-million rehabilitation and upgrading project of the once potholed street was completed last July 5, 2014.

“Cabanatuan is fast becoming a metropolis and we are confident that the infrastructure projects that we are implementing right now will help prepare the city as it welcomes investors and business locators in the future. We may be facing setbacks from time-to-time but still, we are faithful to our promise of being partners for progress of the local government units.” DE Llado concluded.
