A total of 200 wooden beds fabricated by workers of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) are now being used by COVID-19 patients in Cebu City.

Secretary Mark A. Villar said that the wooden beds were fabricated by DPWH Cebu City District Engineering Office following a meeting by District Engineer Florida Nuñez with the officials of Cebu City local government who expressed their need for beds in quarantine facilities.

“With the help of skilled workers from Maintenance Section, DE Nuñez reported that 100 completed beds were turned-over to Zapatera Elementary School; 75 beds to Don Vicente Rama National Highschool; and 25 beds to Cebu City Central School,” said Secretary Villar.

According to DE Nuñez, DPWH is in close coordination with local government officials in the city to further help in any way possible.

With hospitals in Cebu City nearly overwhelmed with patients amid the increasing number of COVID-19 cases, DPWH Region 7 with the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Managing of Emerging Infectious Diseases or IATF and the LGU are looking for more sites where we can put isolation or quarantine facilities similar to what we are doing in Metro Manila, added Secretary Villar.
