
The Department of Public Works and Highways Regional Office 12 (DPWH RO 12) has recently completed the construction of an evacuation center that aims to benefit the residents of Surallah, South Cotabato.
Regional Director Basir M. Ibrahim of DPWH RO 12 said that new Surallah Evacuation Center has been retrofitted to ensure disaster resilience, energy efficiency, and structural strength and integrity that could withstand the highest probable level of seismic activity in the area and any typhoon.
The building, which started construction in October 2019, was accomplished ahead of its target completion date in time to be transformed and used as an isolation facility for COVID-19 patients in the province.
“This is the fourth evacuation center completed ahead of its schedule by DPWH RO 12. Other evacuation centers which were also utilized as COVID-19 Isolation Facility were at General Santos City, Carmen in North Cotabato, and Lebak in Sultan Kudarat,” Regional Director Ibrahim said.
“Complete with different facilities to support its users, each of the mentioned centers with can accommodate at least 30 patients,” he added.
As of August 2020, SOCCSKSARGEN Region and Cotabato City recorded 155 confirmed Covid-19 positive cases and 65 recoveries.
