
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) continues civil works on the Phase 2 of Bislig-Bunawan Road in Surigao del Sur section with 90.1 percent of accomplishment to date.
DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar said that the ongoing road network is vital in the socio-economic development of CARAGA Region by interconnecting the provinces of Surigao Del Sur to and Agusan del Sur.
The multi-year road project involves the construction of 44.2-kilometer 2-lane concrete road with provision of road safety facilities.
DPWH is tasked to usher inter provincial development through the Build, Build, Build program of the government, added Secretary Villar.
With a total allocation of P100 million, first phase of the project began in 2019 with the concreting of 1.47 kilometers completed in March 2020 and continued this year for another 1.54 kilometers which is expected to be completed by this November.
When completed, Bislig-Bunawan Road will serve as an alternate route from the Bislig, Surigao Del Sur to the municipality of Bunawan, Agusan Del Sur, reducing travel time from more than 3 hours to only 1 hour and 30 minutes.
It is also expected to spur economic opportunities between the two provinces in the aspect of tourism and agriculture, in addition to the wood industry which they rely on for inclusive growth.
