The 6th Regional Office of the Department of Public Works and Highways, under the leadership of Regional Director Edilberto D. Tayao and Assistant Regional Director Lea N. Delfinado, hosted the national meeting of the Regional Directors last May 27, 2014.
During the meeting, Regional Director Edilberto D. Tayao briefed his fellow directors on how he was able to execute the projects including the orderly acquisition of the right of way and the relocation of the informal settlers on time and without cost overruns.
The meeting also focused on the inspection of various high impact infrastructure projects being implemented in Western Visayas, particularly in Iloilo City. No less than DPWH Secretary Rogelio L. Singson brought the Regional Directors from the sixteen (16) DPWH Regional Offices nationwide to have a personal look at the major infrastructure development being undertaken by DPWH in Region 6.
Director Tayao toured the group composed of Secretary Singson, Undersecretaries and Assistant Secretaries, and Regional Directors to major projects being implemented under the initiative of the Ilonggo Senator Franklin M. Drilon. The grouped visited the Iloilo Esplanade, which is the first of its kind here in the Philippines. They also inspected the widening/improvement of Benigno S. Aquino Avenue (commonly known as the Iloilo Diversion Road) and the Iloilo Circumferential Road, which has the length of 14 kilometers with the total project cost of P1.7 Billion. Likewise, the group checked the on-going construction of the Iloilo Convention Center, which costs roughly P1.0 Billion.
These significant projects are part of the preparation for the forthcoming 2015 APEC Summit, in which Iloilo is one of the cities being considered to host some of the ministerial meetings.
