DPWH Completes Capalayan-Placer Road in Tagana-an, Surigao del Norte

Residents and island-goers in Tagana-an, Surigao del Norte now benefit from the recently completed Capalayan-Placer Road by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

Secretary Mark Villar said that the Capalayan-Placer Road in Barangay Himamaug, Tagana-an, Surigao del Norte is expected to trigger increase economic opportunities in the area, especially in agriculture and tourism.

Reducing travel time from 42 minutes to only 22 minutes, the road link now ensures a safer and more comfortable exchange of goods and services between Surigao City proper to the municipality of Tagana-an.

Secretary Villar, citing reports from DPWH Surigao Del Norte 2nd District Engineer Marcelino Operario, said that the project involves paving of a 640 lineal meter gravel road and replacement of the 20 lineal meter wooden bridge into permanent concrete.

Road construction activities include grouted riprap for slope protection, concrete line canal, guardrails, and reinforced concrete pipe culvert (RCPC) while the bridge component includes slope protection at Abutment A and B, upstream river control at Abutment B, and a detour road.
