A new flood control structure has been constructed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) along the country’s cleanest river, Lamut River in Ifugao Province in an effort to prevent damaging agricultural lands.

According to DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar, the new Lamut Flood Control involved construction of a 386-meter concrete wall along the body of water recognized as the cleanest river by DENR in 2019.

“Aside from the need to preserve the beauty of this river, this project aims to protect lives, properties, and crops during the rainy season,” said Secretary Villar.

Secretary Villar also commended DPWH Ifugao First District Engineering Office for the timely completion of the P26.8-million project funded under the 2020 General Appropriations Act (GAA) despite the restrictions brought by the pandemic.

“With the completion of infrastructure projects in Ifugao, we are hoping to support agricultural production and further boost the economy of this developing province,” added Secretary Villar.
