Series of inspections were held to check progress of major road maintenance and construction projects of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in the National Capital Region.
DPWH-National Capital Region Director Nomer Abel P. Canlas together with the heads of nine (9) DPWH District Engineering Offices in Metro Manila led a team to inspect the greening and improvement of center islands being done throughout the major thoroughfares in the region.
Through consecutive road inspections, several findings for improvement and immediate action were relayed by Director Canlas to concerned District Engineering Offices which include as road portions with damaged pavements; undesired vegetation; tarnished paints on curbs, gutters, and center islands; withered plants; and lack of plant boxes on other areas.
“Our Clean and Green Program in NCR is being implemented through our Assistance to Youth and Unemployed for Development and Advancement or AYUDA Program recently-launched by Secretary Roger G. Mercado where we employ COVID-19-displaced workers and out-of-school youth to undertake road maintenance activities such as street sweeping, cleaning of street signs, hauling waste materials, and painting of concrete barriers,” said Director Canlas.
“With the help of our AYUDA workers undertaking daily roadside maintenance, we hope to make our national roads cleaner and safer to every road user,” added Director Canlas.
Director Canlas also check the progress of the soon to be completed Katipunan Avenue extension project of DPWH NCR and DPWH Quezon City 1st District Engineering as well as the ongoing repair and maintenance works of the damaged drainage along Roxas Boulevard being conducted by DPWH South Manila District Engineering Office.
