Access to and from the southern part of Negros Occidental has become more seamless and safer with the Department of Public Works and Highways’ (DPWH) completion of a road improvement project along the Kabankalan-Bais Road.

DPWH Secretary Roger G. Mercado, citing reports from DPWH Regional Office 6 Director Lea N. Delfinado, said that the project is a preventive maintenance thru asphalt overlay along the national road’s 2.51-kilometer portion in Barangay Oringao in Kabankalan City.

The improvement project on the four-lane road network also included the provision of pedestrian lanes and reflectorized thermoplastic pavement markings for the safety of pedestrians and motorists.

Secretary Mercado commended the DPWH Negros Occidental 3rd District Engineering Office (DEO) for its swift implementation of the P49.44-million road project from April to October this year, to benefit not only motorists but also ensure safety ofresidents in the area.

“Aside from promoting the safety of travelers and pedestrians using the road by ensuring a better, safer, and more comfortable travel; the now-improved road also allows for a more efficient delivery of agricultural and local products from the barangays in Kabankalan City to various cities and towns in the southern part of Negros Occidental,” Secretary Mercado said.

The Kabankalan-Bais Road is a national road that traverses through one of the mountainous terrains of Kabankalan City that are suited for agriculture, making farming the primary source of income for most of the communities it traverses.
