In an effort to improve regional connectivity, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Cordillera Administrative Regional Office delivered a total of 64.8-kilometers of roads amounting to P1.318-billion in 2021.
DPWH Secretary Roger G. Mercado said that DPWH CAR has completed 467 out of the 726 programmed projects for 2021 with 256 projects still on-going and three (3) projects to be started.
“Implementing these projects despite the manpower and quarantine restrictions in 2021 show not just our commitment to improve mobility and connection in the mountainous region of the Cordilleras but also in providing better access to services to the people,” said Secretary Mercado.
In his report, DPWH CAR Director Khadaffy D. Tanggol said that they also undertook construction of 75 lineal meters of bridges amounting to P75-million as well as construction, repair, maintenance of 28 flood control projects involving dikes, seawalls, and drainages with a total cost of P722-million.
DPWH also implemented projects of other agencies such as 34.29-km of farm to market roads funded with P967-million from the Department of Agriculture and two (2) school buildings built under the Department of Education’s Basic Educational Facilities Fund (BEFF).
Data from the 12 District Engineering Offices in CAR also indicated the completion of P435-million worth of road projects leading to tourism sites under the Tourism Road Infrastructure Program and P939-million road projects under the Department of Trade and Industry’s Roads Leveraging Linkages of Industry and Trade (ROLL IT) Program.
