The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is fast-tracking the construction of a concrete dike that would protect a flood-prone barangay in the town of Vintar, Ilocos Norte.

Based on a report from DPWH Region 1 Director Ronnel M. Tan, DPWH Secretary Roger G. Mercado said that the ongoing construction of the 507.2-meter revetment structure in Barangay Tamdagan is expected to mitigate flood risk for residents and properties along Bislak River.

The flood control structure along the right bank of Bislak River in Sitio Nagalangan is being implemented by Ilocos Norte First District Engineering Office (DEO) utilizing the P81.06-million fund allocation under the 2021 General Appropriations Act (GAA).

Meanwhile, Secretary Mercado commended the DEO for on-time completion of the Piddig-Maab Abucay Road that now serves as an alternate road connecting the Municipalities of Piddig and Carasi.

With a total length of 2 kilometers, the new road traverses Barangays Calluza and Abucay, reducing travel time from 15 minutes to 10 minutes and improving connectivity to the famous Lammin Coffee Plantation in Piddig, Ilocos Norte.

The road project has a total cost of ₱21.490 million funded under the General Appropriations Act (GAA) of 2021.

“The on-time completion of quality infrastructure projects in Ilocos Norte is consistent with our goal of supporting local production and delivery of goods and services to further boost the economy in the countryside,” added Secretary Mercado.
