The mountainous community of Barangay Betwagan in the Municipality of Sadanga, Mountain Province is now better connected by six (6) footbridges built and improved by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
DPWH Secretary Roger G. Mercado, based on reports from Mountain Province 1st District Engineer Januario S. Garde, said that the project included construction and rehabilitation of existing footbridges crossing a narrow waterway that is a tributary of the Chico River.
Funded under the General Appropriations Act (GAA) for 2021, the P14.7-Million project also included the provision of slope protection structures such as grouted ripraps that fortify the footbridges by protecting its foundations and limiting possible damages caused by scouring.
Officially turned over to local government units (LGUs) and opened for use in April 2022, the footbridges linking the community now provide safe and easy access for residents to public facilities in their locality.
