In support of local industry and tourism in Zamboanga Sibugay, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) completed two (2) access roads in the municipalities of Siay and Buug.

Based on a report from DPWH Region 9 Director Cayamombao Dia, DPWH Secretary Mercado said that the construction and improvement of access roads aim to provide improved access to boost trade and economy in the province.

A 410-meter road concreting project connecting Junction National Highway at Barangay Mirangan to Barangay Balucanan in Siay now caters not only the farmers but also support calamansi processing in the municipality.

Meanwhile, the road concreting and drainage improvement project in the municipality of Buug facilitates the production of seaweeds and its hauling to drying facilities as well as transport of coal and other harvested crops in the local market.

Both projects were funded under the Roads Leveraging Linkages for Industry and Infrastructure (ROLL-IT) Program of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and DPWH, amounting to P10-million and P9.6-million, respectively.

“By improving local road conditions, we are able to support local industries that will pave the way to national recovery,” said Secretary Mercado.
