The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is improving the access road leading to the white sand beaches in the town of Lianga, Surigao del Sur Province.
Locals and visitors lauded DPWH for starting the construction of a bridge and road traversing NRJ - Sitio Cansoan - Ganayon, which will make travel easier and faster to the town’s tourist attraction.
Secretary Roger G. Mercado said that the DPWH Regional Office 13 is fast-tracking the road improvement so that visitors will no longer have to walk the one (1) – kilometer small pathway as vehicles will soon be able to gain access towards the beach resort areas.
“Once completed, people can enjoy the white sand beaches of Lianga especially with the resumption of leisure and travel for domestic tourism,” Secretary Mercado added.
With an allocation of ₱182.2 million, the project involves the upgrading and paving of the 1.10-kilometer road, with 60-lineal meter bridge and provision of drainage and slope protection.
Better road is seen to increase tourist arrivals in the municipality, that can provide employment and income to its people.
The road project is a welcomed addition to the infrastructure development in the Municipality of Lianga since the Local Government of Surigao del Sur envisions the province to become the tourism hub in CARAGA due to its numerous tourist destinations, and the Regional Development Council is keen in making this vision a reality because it is integral to the long-term developmental goal of the region.
