In line with its mandate to protect lives and properties from natural disasters, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is constructing a new flood control project in the Municipality of Agno, Pangasinan.

DPWH Region 1 Director Ronnel M. Tan commended DPWH Pangasinan First District Engineering Office (DEO) for the on-time implementation of the flood mitigation structure along the Aloleng Section of Balingcaguing River in Barangay Aloleng, Agno, Pangasinan.

“Since Agno is a coastal municipality and an emerging tourist destination, we really need to fast-track river protection structures before the rainy season to prevent inundation and damages to crops and properties,” Director Tan emphasized.

Funded with P66.58-million under the 2021 General Appropriations Act (GAA), the project involves pile driving of steel sheet piles and construction of slope protection and tide embankment to mitigate flooding.

DPWH Pangasinan Second DEO is also undertaking the construction and maintenance of the 342-meter reinforced concrete revetment structure along Agno River to prevent scouring of the riverbank in Barangay Pantal, Bugallon, Pangasinan.

They are also maintaining the flood mitigation structure along Agno River in Bugallon, Pangasinan. Agno River Basin is one of the major basins in the Philippines, with a major part of its catchment basin situated in Pangasinan.
