The Department of Public Works and Highways recently completed the rehabilitation of drainage structure along E. Quintos Street in Sampaloc, Manila.

DPWH National Capital Region Director Nomer Abel P. Canlas said that the completed project covers the construction of 803 lineal meters of reinforced concrete box culverts on different segments along E. Quintos Street, stretching from S.H. Loyola Street to Gerardo Tuazon Street.

The improvement of drainage system utilized a series of 2.40 by 1.80 meter of reinforced concrete box culverts that will significantly increase the capacity of Josefina-Lepanto and Lepanto-Gov. Forbes Drainage Mains to ensure smooth drain and flow of floodwaters in the event of heavy rainfall.

Sampaloc is home to a number of universities and commercial establishments. Unfortunately, the area is also known for perennial flooding during rainy season, causing heavy traffic, making commuting extra difficult, and leaving passengers, mostly students, stranded.

Funded under the 2021 General Appropriations Act (GAA), the ₱92-million project was implemented by DPWH North Manila District Engineering Office.
