
In a bid to mitigate flooding and protect lives and properties, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has rehabilitated an 8-meter high revetment wall along the riverbanks of Amburayan River in Sudipen, La Union.
According to DPWH Region 1 Director Ronnel M. Tan, the rehabilitation of concrete structure spanning 260-meters in Barangay Porporiket aims to lessen flooding problems and protect agricultural lands.
The flood mitigation structure is expected to block the overflow of Amburayan River during rainy and typhoon season.
The protective structure also served as a tourist attraction during summer.
A total of P27.99-million was allocated under the 2022 General Appropriations Act for the project implemented by La Union First District Engineering Office from February to April 2022.
Meanwhile, La Union Second District Engineering Office also recently-completed 14-groin flood control structures that now protects residents of Barangays San Julian Norte and San Julian West in the municipality of Agoo.
The reconstruction of the 653-meter damaged shore protection wall was funded with P38.3-million under the 2021 General Appropriations Act.
