The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the off-carriageway improvement along Jct. National Road – Antipolo – Tuboran – Quezon – Mabini Road in Siargao Island, Surigao del Norte.

DPWH Region 13 Director Pol M. Delos Santos said that the widening involved the concreting of the road shoulder and line canal which will help accommodate a larger volume of traffic and ensure the safety and vehicle maneuverability of motorists by clearing the right-of-way (ROW) farther.

“We experienced first-hand the difficulty of reaching our kababayans during relief operations because the roads were narrow and blocked with debris after the onslaught of Typhoon Odette,” said Director Delos Santos.

“The recent completion of the road widening project will definitely ensure ease in mobility of people and goods especially during emergency,” added Director Delos Santos.

The 1.16-kilometer road widening project was completed in June 2022 with a total allocation of ₱16-million pesos and was implemented by Surigao del Norte 1st District Engineering Office.

Siargao is one of the most visited tourist destinations in the country because of the variety of attractions on the island aside from surfing and fishing competitions.
