Public Infra Damage due to ‘Karding’ Reaches ₱135 M

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) estimates Typhoon Karding’s partial cost of damage to national roads, bridges, and flood-control structures is currently estimated at ₱135.09 Million.

As of Wednesday, September 28, 2022, assessment of damage to roads has reached ₱34.71 million, bridges at ₱22.39 million, and flood-control structures at ₱77.99 million. The reported cost will be subject to field validation.

By area, the Cordillera Administrative Region’s damage to infrastructure is at ₱19.6 million; Region 2 at ₱9.11 million; Region 3 at P91.38 million; Region 4-B at ₱3 million; and Region 6 at ₱12 million.

Meanwhile, five (5) national road sections remain closed to traffic namely:

1) Kennon Road in Benguet, closed to non-residents for safety reasons;
2) Cabagan-Sta. Maria Overflow Bridge in Isabela due to flooding;
3) Nueva Ecija-Aurora Road, Diteki River Detour Road due to flooding;
4) Baliwag Candaba - Sta.Ana Road K0068+800 - K0069+150 Brgy. San Agustin, Candaba, Pampanga due to flooding; and the
5) Hamtic-Bia-an-Egaña- Sibalom Road, Egaña Bridge K0094+603 - K0094+640 in Brgy. Egaña -Buhang, Sibalom, Antique due to collapsed steel bridge.

DPWH also reported three (3) national roads with limited access which include: Gapan Ft. Magsaysay Road, K0107+100, Brgy. Padolina, General Tinio can only be used by light vehicles due to fallen electric post; Candaba-Sana Miguel Road in Pampanga which is passable to heavy vehicles only due to flooding; and Angeles-Porac-Floridablanca Dinalupihan Road, K0089+051, Mancantian Bridge in Pampanga which is hardly-passable to light vehicles only due to flooding.
