The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is fast-tracking the completion of a concrete flood wall in the Municipality of Vintar, Ilocos Norte.
According to DPWH Region 1 Director Ronnel M. Tan the 258-meter flood control structure along Bislak River in Barangay San Ramon is scheduled to be completed this October.
Funded in the amount of P48.36-million sourced from 2022 General Appropriations Act (GAA), the project entails driving sheet piles, laying rock embankment, and pouring concrete slope protection.
“With the completion of this new concrete flood wall, we are expecting to reduce the detrimental effects of flood in the low-lying residential areas,” said Director Tan.
DPWH Ilocos Norte First District Engineer Glenn C. Miguel added that the project is expected to spur economic growth by protecting agricultural lands and local industries from inundation.
In 2019, the town of Vintar was placed under a state of calamity due to landslides and massive flooding brought by Tropical Storm Ineng.
