The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has finished paving a 4.4-kilometer road that will benefit highland communities in Lemery, Iloilo.
Costing P90 million, the road improvement project involves upgrading of the Cabantohan-Lemery Road from gravel into 2-lane concrete with stone masonry and grouted riprap.
Citing a report by DPWH Regional Office 6 Director Nerie D. Bueno, Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan said that the concreted road will provide a more convenient route for farmers in the delivery of their products to the market at a lesser travel time and hauling cost. The road improvement project will likewise provide commuters and motorists with better access to schools, health facilities, public and commercial establishments, and other basic government services.
“Local communities, particularly those in remote areas, can now experience an easier and safer travel with the upgraded road instead of the muddy and dangerous gravel road which was prone to mudslide and landslide during heavy rains,” added Director Bueno.
DPWH Iloilo 3rd District Engineering Office implemented the road concreting project through the 2021 General Appropriations Act.
