The slope protection works of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) along Sindangan-Liloy Road in Sindangan, Zamboanga del Norte improves safety of motorists.
According to DPWH Region 9 Director Cayamombao D. Dia, the new 220-meter eco-friendly mitigation structure was fast-tracked to maintain stability of rocks and soil along the mountainous portion of Sindangan-Liloy Road.
Implemented by DPWH Zamboanga del Norte Second District Engineering Office, the project involves installation of erosion mats and setting up of high-tensile wire mesh that keeps rock masses in place.
The P67.5-million rehabilitation works funded under the 2022 General Appropriations Act (GAA) also covers the surplus rock excavation and hydroseeding.
“DPWH is undertaking more slope protection projects in the province to mitigate soil erosion brought by heavy rainfall that may further damage properties,” added Director Dia.
