The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has officially began the annual road checking and quality assurance in Southern Leyte to update the condition of national roads and bridges in the province.

Based on a report submitted by DPWH Region 8 Director Edgar B. Tabacon, DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan said that 18 personnel divided into two (2) teams from the DPWH Southern Leyte District Engineering Office (DPWH-SLDEO) Planning and Design Section were deployed to ensure that existing policies and regulations are met while conducting the inventory.

DPWH-SLDEO District Engineer Manolo Rojas said that the thorough inspections this February covers a total of 94.8 kilometers of roads and 49 bridges.

“These inspections are deemed necessary to ensure the safety of our highways for all motorized and non-motorized users,” said Secretary Bonoan.

The data gathered from the survey will also be generated on the Road and Bridge Information Application (RBIA), long adopted by DPWH as the official source of road and bridge information.
